On the bench

I've entered a new phase a park going. Sometimes I just sit. The kids are happy to run off and play, I am happy to relax in the shade.

Judge me if you want, while I sit here and read on my iPhone (or blog, or check emails).

Nine years later this sit feels well earned.

Yesterday I went to the pool w/ my boys and a girlfriend and her boys. Hers are younger and so were close by at all times. Meanwhile my boys were diving off the tall diving board at the other end of the complex. It was strange, but totally developmentally appropriate. And damnit. I have earned a break.

I still remember those moments. I'd take my kids some place and think. I didn't have to bring a diaper(s) or No one cried. or I've sat here for 3 minutes and haven't had to settle one dispute. or I feel so relaxed. Then I'd mourn the loss of an era with my "former children" and welcome the "new stage". Enjoy, M.
