Peonies

pe·o·ny[pee-uh-nee] –noun, plural -nies.

any of various plants or shrubs of the genus Paeonia, having large, showy flowers, as the widely cultivated species P. lactiflora: the state flower of Indiana.

Peonies are one of my favorite flowers. Growing up, we had lots of them all over the acres we lived on (and where my parents still live). They make me feel nostalgic and happy and hopeful. That's a lot to ask for in a flower!

Imagine my joy when I found a long row of them on the south side of the house we purchased last summer. I've had such a good time watching them grow this spring. Now that they are blooming, I just like to sit out there and look at them. The smell is so flowery, the blooms so pretty.

It's one of my favorite parts of our yard.

Your peonies are lovely. Mine -- which I have admitted to getting rid of -- were tall and rangy. Hmmm...maybe I was a bit hasty.

They are fluffy and full. Sadly, I don't have a single flower planted yet and being in a townhouse no flower beds. I will be fixing up my patio pots this weekend, our front needs some colour.

Your flowers are so pretty and what nice thoughts they bring you.

So are these pretty easy to grow? Do well in a hot climate? I am currently working on my flower beds and so far only have four plants in the ground.

Ah, those have a special place in my heart. My great grandma had them in her backyard and I thought they were so beautiful when I was a child. Always remind me of her.

I too love the peony. Did you know Trumbull has a Peony Gardens? They are just full of blooms. And I love to smell them. I keep one on my kitchen table just for the smell. I intentionally "stop and smell the peonies".

I love, love, love peonies. I wish we had them, but we have too much shade, I think!
