More Than Just a Baby Bed

Our little B in her little nursery.

She grew so quickly.

Then there was her brother, our little man.

Both children quickly grew.

My white, Fisher Price crib. Purchased at KMart for less than $150. Purchased by Grandpa and Grandma J for the OM babies. You have held two babies as they slept. You have held two babies through play times, tummy time, and time outs. We are so grateful to have had such a strong piece of furniture that lasted the past five years.

Last night, the little man realized he could effortlessly climb to the other side of your rails and step down easily. He felt proud and thought it was hi-larious.
Today we will say good-bye to you. I will find out if a local human service agency could find you a good home. You can help a new family with their baby. You can hold a new baby as he sleeps.

It's another milestone. Another step into this time when there are no babies in our house.
It's happy-sad.
Thank you, white Fisher Price crib, for your service in our home.

Aw! Your kids are beautiful. And I think we had the same crib, bought at Zellers....

Those milestones really do tug your heart. I still can't believe I will be pulling out my crib again soon. It all seems like a dream.

I can not give up our crib. It was the only new thing we bought for the baby (other than a carseat) because we were so broke. And now it's weighed down with this nostalgic promise of our vowing to be GOOD parents even if we were between a rock and a hard place. And I can't let it go.

I completely understand your feelings. My sons are 17 and 21, and we still have the crib. I'm hoping to someday use it for a grandchild.

I'm extremely nostalgic and hold on to way too much. That's why our basement junk room is filled to the brim!

You're absolutely right...it's a happy-sad occasion.

We just drove our crib out to the dump before we moved, and it was a hard day. It was a hand-me-down when we got it, and the front rail had started to break a bit, but still I was shocked to realize that the thrift store wouldn't take cribs of any description - good luck finding a home for yours!

Oh boy, Jupiter! Now you've got me scared. Maybe I'll just keep that white crib out in the garage until I hit menopause!

Grandbabies. Well, I think I'd rather pony up for a crib in 20 years when I need one for them, or will just keep our pack n play, which works great for the babies. We have zero storage, so I can't see holding on to it for 20 years...I'm getting so practical in my old age...

Wow, that is a big milestone! I had a hard time getting rid of our nursery set...but eventually I had to be practical. We were out of storage space! I think happy-sad describes it perfectly. It is both of those things!

Oh, how bittersweet--I know. But it looks like they had many, many happy hours in that crib!

I thought you hit "menopause", oh no, you hit "me no pause". I remember the young "me no pause" days. It was like a flash- kids, kids, kids and then they were grown. And it's a good thing.

You're so brave. I wish I could bring myself to pass on our crib. I think there's still a teensy part of me that is hoping for an immaculate conception or something. haha
