First Family

I've felt pretty calm through the week. It is a great time to be a teacher, a great time to be an American. I watched President Obama's oath and inaugural speech on the big screen at our school with hundreds of teenagers. The hope and applause was a lot to take.

But I was calm.
[I tend to cry like a baby at such things, but not that day.]

Then there was this. I was looking at just now.

And bawling. Like a baby. Tears and tears and tears.

This gorgeous family. These beautiful girls. Just the family for this time.

It just feels right.

I watched all day and then again with Hubby in the evening - and I cried. What a smart, eloquent and thoughtful man you have leading your country. I am envious.

It was surprisingly moving [for an obscure foreigner!]

They seem so normal.

My favourite part of yesterday was after Obama's speech when Malia gave her approval. You could read her lips, and she said something like, "That was OK, dad." And Obama laughed.

My second favourite part of yesterday: the actual speech. The last five minutes were powerful.

And my third favourite: Aretha Franklin's hat. It was awesome.

So do you think the Obama's are going to have another kid? I bet they do.

It was a great day, wasn't it? I listened at work and then watched with the kids that night. Of course I was tearing up, and my kids were looking at me like I was crazy.

Oh god, the BOX. I KNOW.

I actually started crying when they walked down the hallway to take their seats before their parents arrived. CRIED.

What a week.

I just hope the media and everyone else leaves those kids alone enough for them to be ok with ALL THIS REALLY BIG STUFF.
