Once a year we honor teachers: for accomplishments, years of service and retirements.
I must admit this is my goal. Not for awards, not for wealth, not for greatness. I just pray someday someone will put my name on a list and say "she did a nice job".

I recently had my ring repaired and cleaned. I was without it for two weeks, which was just the strangest feeling. Having it back has made me nostalgic, thinking about our courtship, the proposal, our wedding. I'm a lucky, lucky girl.

Probably time to tuck away the few Easter things I've got. I love the cheerful colors of spring decorations.

Not sure yet what will be on our list for this summer, but thinking about it is always one of my favorite spring activities!

Today she hopped off the bus with her classmates after a full day field trip. These 5th graders have spent the year becoming such close friends.
After the summer, they will be split among three different middle schools and I found myself a bit emotional, knowing all the big changes that are coming their way.
She's growing so tall and choosing who she wants to be...I had no idea what this was all about when I sat in the grass snapping that photo 10 years ago. There is still so much to learn.

This year he received a bag for his glove and bat as part of his birthday gift. He wants to play catch outside and is excited to start practice.
We're entering a new phase of parenting, one with a tween and an active eight-year old. It's pretty fun.
Looking at that sparkling baby face in the picture, I can see the same Buddy that I see today. He's just got a little more hair now!

Dear Buddy
Snips and Snails
At Two
Now I Am Three
I guess it's normal to feel this way, like time flies. We've just had so many changes, so many LIFE EVENTS since finding out that we were expecting Buddy. I finished grad school, Hubs changed jobs, I changed jobs, Hubs earned his doctorate. We moved across the state, to a new city with new friends and new jobs (again).
The one thing that remained consistent was our little family of four. We stick together, fight, laugh, play. These kids have a funny habit of growing up and it's incredible to watch.

The Buddy at 2 weeks |
He's 8! On their birthdays, I like to tell my kids about how little they used to be. We talk about their quirks and firsts. Today was no different.
He's almost done with second grade and now I can barely lift him off the ground without a 1-2-3 jump count.
If I close my eyes, I can still remember this little guy. My tiny Buddy.

Yesterday there was major help from my folks to tidy up and today a guy in a van is cleaning carpets, forward progress feels so good!

It's a nice, even number. It's my baby's age in 3 days.
How is it that I've known this little guy for EIGHT years and it feels so brief!?
I see some sappy, nostalgic reminiscing in my near future, I can feel it coming.

I've been waiting and watching. Funny how a little bit of green popping out of the ground is such big news. It's VERY exciting.
Update: three days later
What a fantastic before and after. I love spring!

I spent the last few days thinking/learning/speaking about topics related to autism. It was interesting and challenging, just like all topics related to human behavior.
The way I see it, most things boil down to this: respect each other, listen to each other, love each other. It doesn't seem all that complicated to me.

While the kids got their teeth cleaned, I got to sit and eat popcorn (our dentist is so cool). It's a win win.
