The fact that she likes Barbie pleases me to no end. When I was young, Barbie was my favorite toy. I would build a whole village, with my best friend, Jenna. We had a laundromat, a park, a rock-n-roll concert, a house, of course, and three vehicles. There were many Barbies, Kens, and Skippers with which to act out my childhood fantasies. We did this over and over. Our own little soap opera. Barbie didn't give me body image issues or anything else negative. Just a whole lot of fun.
Raising a daughter is a dream come true for many reasons, but one of them is the joy of reliving my own childhood. What was your favorite toy as a child?

My favorite thing to do as a child didn't involve a toy, per se. I loved playing pretend. Whether it was playing school, secretary, Zoro or Rin Tin Tin (dates me doesn't it?)- I didn't care. Barbie did play a role in this activity, but I wasn't as into Barbie as the future generations. I made doll clothes for her (my first sewing project with my grandma) and houses out of boxes, comlete with old wallpaper and linoleum, as there weren't the pletora of items you can purchase today. So with that memory, perhaps Barbie would have been my favorite toy - along with my bike!
I love the idea of the giraffe in the fridge -- what a spark your girl has.
Boy, I loved Barbie. My sister and I got matching hot-pink-chiffon-clad Barbies one Christmas, and that was absolutely the best.
I played with Barbie dolls too. Huge imaginative stories. Being an only child I used to even play board games by myself, I would get to be two colours/people. Sometimes my dog would join in and I would "roll" for him. I realize how pathetic this sounds, but I enjoyed myself.
School was my other favourite game. I would line up chairs, paper, etc. and I would be the teacher. The best part was "marking" all the work.
There is usually something in my fridge at any given moment as well. Usually pretend food cooling off.
Ohhhhh.... Melanie!!!!! This brings back so many memories of you and I and the Barbie house and playing house with the dolls.... the list goes on and on! I miss childhood!! LOL!!! Those were the days, weren't they?!?! I love watching my girls play with the Barbies and babies too. Makes me think back to a much esier time in life and also makes me happy that they have such great imaginations. **sigh**
