Kindergarten Roundup

Artwork by my B, February 2008

That, my friends, is the world my four-year old lives in.
Full of rainbows and butterflies.

She wants to be an artist, or a teacher, or an art teacher, or a dentist, or a swim instructor, or a construction worker. Or a magical fairy. When she grows up.

It's not that I don't want her to grow up. It's just that I want this time so badly. When she's small and vulnerable and skipping around the house singing Elmo tunes.

I'm turning in paperwork tomorrow for her kindergarten registration. Tomorrow is the due date. I guess I've waited until the last minute. Not because I doubt our decision, but because I can't believe the time is here.

My baby.
My B.

Don't grow up too fast, okay?

Aw.
Kindergarten will be a lot of fun, but it IS bittersweet, isn't it?

When Rosebud started JK this fall and I realized I have two school age kids it was almost too much.

Papoosie Girl came up with a plan that she will be a dancer on Monday's, a skater on Tuesday's and so on..she refuses to decide what she wants to 'be' and found a way to be everything!

It creeps on you so fast...
First kindergarten...
Then, oh then...
My daughter is ten...
And now, now she closes the door when she gets changed...
A door is closed...
She is growing up... Independence and a separate body...

OM,
School is so great! Your children come home and tell you "Mrs. ? says I have to drink milk to make my bones strong." (I think, "Didn't I say that a thousand times? And now Mrs. ? gets credit for it.") They come home so excited that they learned how to read a BIG word. They tell stories about the playground with a perspective that is angelic "Then that other girl just said "So" and we ignored her." And many more stories. But remember all the times you thought, as a teacher, "If I could just take that student home I know they'd do much better." Well, that's because the HOME is the greatest influence. So no matter what happens at school you will always be her FIRST TEACHER. Congrats! You get an A+, as usual.
p.s. I still have pictures of you with Breanna, as a baby, at the S Easter, at the T school, that I haven't printed and always planned to print and send to you- maybe for hschool graduation.
