Saturdays

I spend part of my weekends (sometimes ALL) cleaning our house.
I don't do a lot on the weekdays, which I do believe is my problem.

It's the flylady again, hounding me. Her reminder for Saturdays:
"Please don't spend all day cleaning. Daily routines will keep your home maintained."

I don't follow a good routine during the week, which leaves a lot of make-up work on the weekends. The laundry has piled up, though I do try to keep up with that during the week. The bathrooms need scrubbing. The floors vacuumed. The trash emptied.

If I would do a little each day, this wouldn't happen. Spending 50 hours a week away from home seems to hinder these routines. I come home each evening. We do supper, a little relax time - either playing with the kids or watching t.v. We do bath time on an every other night routine. Then it's bedtime for the kids around 8. After that, I am inclined to recline. In my chair.

I write these amazing to do lists involving routines to keep the house tidy. The routines give way to American Idol and Grey's Anatomy. This is the part where I feel lazy.

So I'm inspired today, mostly by my ginormous to do list. To do better this week. To do a little each day. To get in the routine of keeping house. To keep up so the weekends are different.

To not spend next Saturday rushing around like I will today.

On my list today?
  • bathrooms
  • bedding
  • laundry
  • mop tile
  • empty all trash
  • tidy storage in basement
  • master bedroom

First, we've got to go up to school for swim lessons and a little Saturday morning work there (my desk is as bad as my laundry room!). Then it's back home, for a day of clean up.

Off I go!

Good luck getting organized!

I HATE spending weekend days cleaning and, for some reason, I do a lot of it on Sunday instead of Saturday. Laundry usually always gets done on Sunday, or evenings during the week when the kids are asleep.

It's tough getting organized!

Because I am at home I do my work during the week, but even when I was working I tried to do a little each night. The weekend is our only family time really since Hubby often gets home just as the girls are going to bed. I need weekends or we will never get to spend time together. It is not easy though and some jobs are hard to fit in on weeknights.

Maybe keep a few for Saturday, just a few so by noon or so you are free.

Oh, I hear you! By the time the kid is in bed and the dinner mess is cleaned up, I'm pretty much DONE for the night. Then I relax, but feel guilty about it, which isn't really relaxing at all, is it?

We clean bathrooms and mop the kitchen floor in the evenings. Once they are clean we grownups get to enjoy them a bit before the crazed hoards destroy them. Crazed hoards being my germ covered children.

You know the FlyLady is probably rich enough to have a full time housekeeper and a nanny and a chef.

Like I'd like to walk into some people's houses that tell the rest of us how to do it. I'll bet they ignore things you attend to. I'll tell you something...the women I teach with have cleaning ladies!!!

To all you MOMS- when my children were young I commented to my mom (who had seven children in 10 years) that I couldn't keep up. She said just write down how you spend your day and see what you have time for. That was a joke (first, I never sat down) but it made me realize I didn't have time to do everything. If I spent time being a good housekeeper and mom then my husband was shorted. If I spent time being a good wife and housekeeper then my children were shorted. If I was a good wife and mother then my house was shorted (do you see where this is going?). So I chose my house to be shorted. I think it worked out. If I'd had a husband that helped a little more like he does now it wouldn't have gotten quite so bad but that's the husband I chose (and I feel God chose him, too.) so I did what I could. I don't think I'd ever go back and do it differently. People who knew me knew I got messy from time to time but they loved me anyway. I raised my kids, loved my husband and rejoice that they have turned out-
