Keeping House - The Unfinished Basement

The shelf that holds the kitchen overflow.
So, what are you doin' this weekend? Me? I'm hanging out at home. My mom is heading into town.

What else?

Clean Sweep!!!

Have you ever seen this show?

No, I'm not going on the show. My mom is coming to town and making me clean the crap out of my basement. I am showing you photos of the part of my house where no one is even allowed! But I show you because there will be fantastic after pictures in a few days.

Our basement is unfinished and slightly unused. We have one seating area where we watch a ginormous t.v. I do laundry. And we store lots of stuff.

You can see kitchen stuff. That is overflow from my tiny, tiny kitchen. There are holiday decorations. There is miscellany.

By tomorrow night, it will all be organized (or thrown out) and tidy.

I'm kind of excited!

Keep in mind, I am seriously showing you the basement where NO ONE is allowed! We'll see what it looks like once it's actually tidied. Maybe I won't feel such shame.

The "seating area", which consists of two old chairs and a treadmill.

The bedding storage, gift wrap, and my scrapbooking supplies

My "laundry room", with laundry in various forms of doneness.

I LOVE it when my mom comes and helps me do these projects!!! I LOVE LOVE LOVE IT!!! Our moms are GREAT at the "if it wasn't used in the last two years, it gets tossed" philosophy. And it's so easy to do it when she is there helping. If I was doing it alone, I would justify keeping the crap!!! There was one time right after I found out I was expecting Jenna that my Grandma Barb came out and helped me sort through baby clothes so that when Jenna came I had it all done and just had to open totes. What a GREAT feeling!!! I can't wait to see the "after" pics!!! CONGRATS TO YOU!!! You will feel so much better about your house as a whole when this is done!!! YAAAYYY!!! Tell Aunt M hello for me, please!!!

The dreaded laundry room. Mine looks much the same. Only I'm not doing anything about it just because I'm plain lazy! Good luck and can't wait to see the after.

How fun - I love organizing things and making them look better. Too bad I'm not inspired to do the same to our storage room. :-)

I have seen that show--it makes me want to clean, which is a good thing!
Good luck! I LOVE it when someone comes to help me clean what I can't face myself. Somehow, that extra person gives me the energy I need to face it and it usually turns out to be fun!

Good luck! There's nothing like visitors to make clean-up so critical.

My house always gets nicely organzed before my MIL rolls into town!

good luck! I hope you accomplished a lot :) I wish I had a basement to store all our stuff!

You can totally do this! That's awesome you have help, that is the best way because usually the helpers have no attachment to our things like we might.

All the best,
