Menu Plan Monday

For me, menu planning works best on the weekends. So today I'm getting together recipes and a grocery list. Some time tomorrow I'll go to the store. It's Menu Plan Monday on Saturday.

Last week I realized that I'll probably never stick to the plan 100%. Having the groceries I need and a plan allow me to be more flexible though. I can push things back a night if I need to take a night off from cooking. Sometimes we just do a frozen pizza or get take-out. Sometimes the kids will eat cheese and fruit for supper and hubs and I scavange for ourselves.

The menu plan has definitely upped the number of nights that we eat a healthy dinner together, so I'm going to keep doing it!

Beck has inspired me to make dessert, so I'm even going to do that tomorrow night.

Sunday: BBQ Pork Chops (the chops got put in the freezer last week when the wheels fell off), Corn on the Cob, Peach Cobbler III

Monday: BLT sandwiches. This is a selfish meal, because it's one of my favorites. The kids will probably eat cheese sandwiches and fruit.

Tuesday: Chicken Parmesan, Green Beans, Garlic Bread

Wednesday: Runza Casserole, mixed veggies

Thursday: re-runs

Friday: pizza

Saturday and Sunday: take out and meals OYO (on your own)

Hope that you have a great weekend and a terrific week!

Hey Mel! I love runza casserole. I have the makings in my frige! If you would like some hints: precook the bottom layer of cresents at least half way or it won't get done. I purchase the shredded cabbage - much quicker! Also, I use mild shredded cheddar instead of swiss - cheddar might be more kid friendly. My recipe calls for a bit of worchestershire sauce mixed in, too.
PS - we are going to Brewsky's - then back to our house for dessert - peach praline shortcake - yum!

Aw, I'm so glad that you found that post inpsirational! I like having dessert during the week - it makes ordinary days feel special, you know?

Hey Jacque - thanks for the tips! I love Runza casserole too but have only had it once. I have never made it at home - we'll see what the family thinks. I really like worchestershire sauce, so will definitely add it in. I wasn't sure about swiss cheese either and had planned on substituting some sort of yellow cheese!

:-)

Good luck with the schedule! I do this also - because I just need some structure. But I don't think I've ever stayed 100% true to my plans. Phooey. Life gets in my way.

My rerun night is Wednesday, when I'm at my lowest energy wise - and also I can watch Bones instead of doing a wack load of dishes.

Do you have a crockpot? Most people think crockpots are strictly a wintery stew makin' machine, but we use ours a lot in the summer when it is too hot to turn of the oven. On really hot days (not that we've had many this year) we'll set it up down in the basement to keep the main floor very cool.

OMG. I saw the runza casserole and nearly ainted. We are from the North and miss eating Runzas. THis will do perfectly.
Thanks!
Oh, and the menu-plannig thing, I think I will give that a whirl. Anything has to be better than arriving home with 4 hungry kids and trying to throw somehting together.

The BBQ pork chops were eaten right out of the crock pot, about a 1/2 hr ago. Yummm.

I like the crock pot too, but it always seems like such a touch and go thing. Like you are telling the food, "Good luck. I'll see you in 6 hrs." The lack of control is un-nerving for me.

Yes, but giving up control also means giving up blame.

"I don't know why it tastes like dirty feet. I did exactly what the recipe said. Its the appliance. Somethings all wonky with the wiring."

With minor tweaking this excuse also works when you use the clippers to shave your husband's head and leave little tufts on the top part.
